Google開啟了新時代，強大的搜尋功能讓它成為網路－史上最大的資料庫－並非絕對，卻即將唯一的入口。

在台灣，Google提供你存取網路資訊的入口，提供了存取新聞群組的入口，但Google不只是這樣而已；回到Google.com，你會發現，Google所能提供的服務早已超越一個傳統的搜尋網站所能：

Web    Images    Groups    News    Froogle    Local
還有Answers Catalogs Directory Mobile Scholar，
甚至是指定主題的Special Search跟University Search。

不能忘了，Google也把強大的搜尋能力引進個人電腦：Desktop Search。

除此之外，Google藉由併購Blogger，擁有了自己的「庶民媒體」平台；不久之前，Google更宣布將提供Video Search，目前測試版可以讓使用者從字幕等文字來搜尋各大電視台的影片節目。

Google更已擁有了keyhole，一家提供衛星攝影服務的公司。

你有沒有想起那部電影《全民公敵》Enemy of the State？

根據Google的說法，
"Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Keyhole's technology and products are an excellent addition to our efforts to do that. We do not have any announced plans regarding how this technology will integrate with our current products and services."

在強大搜尋能力的背後，需要的是人力無法完成的資料掏洗／索引工程。

應該已經隱隱察覺些什麼了吧。一種不安。
